PISTOL TRAINING

The FSA First Experience Pistol Shooting Course is a 6 hour course that covers all of the basics of purchasing, owning, operating, maintenance, and cleaning of a handgun. In addition to extensive classroom time, students will have several hours on the range to practice their shooting skills.

This class is ideal for the first time or novice shooters of all ages (minimum age of 12), or for anyone wanting to build a good foundation of firearms knowledge.

• Minors must be accompanied by a Legal Guardian

• Handgun: Rentals are available at no additional cost, ammunition will be purchased separately

The Woman on Target Course is an 8-hour comprehensive introductory firearms training program designed specifically for women. This class combines classroom instruction with live-fire range training in a supportive, non-intimidating, and safety-focused environment.

Whether you are completely new to firearms, seeking to refresh foundational skills, or an experienced shooter looking to refine your technique, this course is tailored to meet your needs and build confidence at every level.

All necessary equipment—including firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and targets—is provided by Firearms Safety Academy. No personal gear is required.

Course Objectives

Participants will receive professional, hands-on instruction in the following essential skills:

• Safe loading and unloading of firearms

• Clearing common malfunctions safely and efficiently

• Understanding ammunition types and differences

• Proper shooting stance and grip

• Sight picture and sight alignment

• Sight adjustment techniques

• Breath control for improved accuracy

• Trigger control and follow-through

This course emphasizes safety, fundamentals, and confidence-building in a welcoming atmosphere. All instruction is delivered by certified, experienced instructors committed to your success and safety.

Course Description

This course is designed to expand your tactical skills with a handgun. This class covers the basics of shooting from cover, shooting on the move, the proper manipulation of the handgun while moving, and shooting from retention.

This class will be down range. You will be performing multiple drills while moving around obstacles and addressing multiple targets while moving.

Only one weapon type will be used per class

Prerequisites

• Have Passed Beginner and Intermediate Pistol Courses

Requirements

• Handgun with strong side, outside the waistband holster

• Three Magazines

• Magazine carriers

• 100 rounds of ammunition

Teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence.

The NRA Defensive Pistol Course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: How to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm, basic principles of concealment, the difference between cover and concealment, drawing from the holster, levels of mental awareness, developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection, clearing common stoppages, use of pocket pistols, and more

​Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate. This course is only conducted by NRA Certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.
